GOVERNMENT PAYS TRIBUTE TO COMMUNITIES ON WORLD ART DAY

The Ministry of Local Government, Unity, and Culture, on behalf of the government, commends the communities for their significant contribution in shaping the art sector.

In a recent statement released on World Art Day, the government expressed gratitude, stating that, our communities are a great source of inspiration for our art.
The statement highlights the influence of folk songs and cultural expressions from the villages on the music industry, as well as the impact of rural landscapes on visual artists.

Additionally, it acknowledges the skilled artisans from rural communities who have made Malawi renowned for its basketry and handcrafts. The government also recognizes
the growing presence of the film industry, emphasizing the importance of drawing inspiration from folk stories. Humphrey Pandaminga, the Director of Arts in the Ministry,
acknowledges the invaluable contribution of rural communities in the development of various art forms
