MR SPLASH
In 2020, Urban Music People (UMP) honored the late Geoffrey ‘Mr Splash’ Kapusa by presenting him with the inaugural UMP Media Legend Award. This award is bestowed upon individuals or entities that have significantly contributed to the advancement of media and arts in Malawi.
Geoffrey Kapusa, also known as “Mr Splash”, gained fame as a TV personality through the popular MBC TV show “Music Splash”. He began his career as a TV presenter in 1996, during the early stages of MBC TV when it was still a project under the leadership of Dr Benson Tembo.
One of Mr Splash’s notable achievements was winning the MBC Entertainers of the Year awards for Best TV Presenter and Best TV Producer in 2000, a feat he repeated in 2002 and 2004. This winning streak remains unmatched by any TV presenter or producer even after 15 years since Mr Splash's departure from the entertainment scene.
In addition to his work at the state broadcaster, Mr Splash also contributed to private television stations such as Mibawa TV and Times TV. Originally from Bawi Village in Ntcheu District, he pursued his first Certificate in Journalism in 1997 at the University of Malawi Polytechnic.
Mr Splash held a Diploma in Human Rights from Stockholm, Sweden and Cape Town, South Africa, along with various journalism certificates from institutions such as Namibia Broadcasting Corporation, UNESCO Zimbabwe, and Thomson Foundation UK. His expertise in TV news gathering, reporting, and program presentation was widely recognized.
May Mr. Splash rest in peace.
